Encounters
In line with its polysemous name, ANTI represents both an offering, or a gift to its audience (Finnish word ‘anti’), as well as an opposition to traditional views on the limits set on art experiences. Instead of galleries and stages with admission fees, the festival seeks to make interesting contemporary art accessible to everyone, and encourages diverse audiences to ponder on their own relationship with the experience and creation of art. Over the years the reactions to featured artworks have ranged from quiet reflection to bursting laughter, confusion, tears, and sometimes, to complete indifference. Whether it’s an excited conversation among the audience, or a clash between the artwork and the cityscape surrounding it, each encounter at ANTI Festival is equally precious and unique.
